Comment: This is a "laugh out loud" book.....one of those that you really hate to read the last page.....from ducks to turkeys to parrots...and yes...even baby starlings....you'll fall in love with the family and their "feathered zoo".

Summary: Perfect and SO TRUE!!
Comment: I received this book as a Christmas gift from my mom, who is also owned by her animals.
From the first page I was laughing because I knew EXACTLY what he was going through. We too have a small bunny. Although she was rescued from the side of the highway. "I" am owned by a retired Thoroughbred racehorse that is more a pet than anything else in his new life. Add the 3 cats, an aging Border Collie, 3 house rabbits and a small flock of pet chickens and it is quite the menagerie. Although parrots and turkeys are not in the future. My husband would surely divorce me if I were to try that. And we dont live in the country.. YET!
This book is a must read for anyone with animals that finds the free time to do something other than serve them.

The last time I remember laughing out loud while reading, Dave Barry was still writing a weekly column and I weighed ten pounds less. But as much as I miss having a waist, given a choice between the two, I'd have to opt for the big belly laughs I found between the pages of Bob Tarte's "Enslaved by Ducks," a chronicle of one man's descent into chaos, confusion and indentured servitude. It's charming the way Tarte accepts his wife's desire to get "just one bunny," it's endearing the way he rebounds from the arrival of each additional animal to their lives, and it's downright miraculous he retains his sense of humor even after he forfeits his identity and becomes little more than a slave to his charges, a gaggle of animals including ducks, geese, parrots, turkeys and cats. Tarte's humor is dry, wry and constantly catching his reader by surprise. And as the slave to nearly a hundred animals of my own, I finally felt a twinge of sympathy for my similarly besieged husband, David. I can only pray the two never get together and discuss vet bills . . .
"Enslaved by Ducks" reaffirms that each creature great and small has their own identity, heart and soul, and like Bob Tarte, a hard-core sense of humor, as well!

Summary: Be ye hereby warned!
Comment: In this humorous book, Bob Tarte plumbs the depths of the abyss into which my wife periodically threatens to tip us. The delightfully self defeating efforts to control animal acquisition in the face of pets, each possessing more personality than a classroom full of teenagers, resonated with the strong bonding to our pets. The self effacing humor holds a kindly mirror to the extra-rational world of pet ownership. Definately a good read.

Summary: enchanting!
Comment: This was an entertaining read. Enslaved by Ducks is the first of two books telling the story of Bob Tarte, His wife and family of pets. The author tells of being a young man who was completely disinterested in the animal kingdom to someone who has learned the joys of life with pets after being dragged kicking and screaming into this knowledge by his wife Linda. Linda is a unique individual whose empathy with animals is legendary.
Their story is told by Bob himself in such a humorous and entertaining way that fifty pages into this book I had purchased the next one, Fowl Weather. I recommend them both.
